Not sure why the girls were stretching. Probably because they were a little nervous and didn’t know if they’d fall in running the river I was continually convincing them was a good idea. Those beautiful bamboo paddles lasted all of about 1 summer; I was forgetting them seemingly at every few beaches we were exploring along the coast or they’d end up broken in half in that river I convinced all my friends to paddle down.
After all as Harry S. Truman said, "If you can't convince them, confuse them."
